EXCLUSIVE: The Dances With Films pageant, which needed to go digital for its 2020 version due to the coronavirus pandemic, is returning greater than ever this year for its twenty fourth version, with organizers increasing the Los Angeles-based indie movie occasion to 3 weeks, from August 26-September 12.
The pageant’s lineup, which can unspool on the TLC Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, will kick off with the opening-night movie The Art of Protest, a world premiere, which can mark the primary time a documentary will open the fest. Directed by Colin M. Day, the movie examines the intersection of the artwork, music and protest worlds. Financed by rocker Dave Navarro, it contains interviews with Navarro, Tom Morello, Moby, Shepard Fairey Pussy Riot and others.
Protest will likely be a part of a gap “Meet the Filmmakers” gala September 12 on the Roosevelt Hotel Ballroom.
The closing-night movie is Mars Roberge’s Mister Sister, set contained in the underground world of New York City drag and together with a efficiency by the late LGBTQI musical icon Ari Gold, who died in February.
Also new this year is the inaugural First Film Series, presenting early and extra present works of established filmmakers. This year’s honorees are producer Michael London (Thirteen, Sideways, Trumbo, Milk) and director Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips, News of the World).
In all DWF: LA will supply a lineup of greater than 250 movies from greater than 350 filmmakers together with 75 brief movies.
